When we set out to build The Rain Collector, we looked at a lot of what other people were doing and figured out how to do it better.  We also found some really cool components that we have included into the product that really does make it the best on the market.

Downspout Collector

The Rain Collector uses an ingenious device that easily inserts into your downspout to collect the rain water from your roof.  It manages the flow of water for you.  When it rains, it delivers the water from the eaves to The Rain Collector barrel, directly.  When the barrel is full, the unit diverts water back to your downspout for normal water flow.  No mess, no worry!

Collector Barrel

This is the heart of The Rain Collector.  It is a recycled food grade barrel that holds just shy of 60 gallons.  That’s right!  Non perishable food products were shipped only once in these barrels.  We clean and rescue these barrels, saving them from being chipped up and dumped into landfill.  Hey!  Plastic does not biodegrade.  We might as well put it to good use, and that’s good for us.  We certainly don’t want The Rain Collector to decompose on you.

Air Management Valve

One of the interesting factors that came up in our product development was that of air management.  Since The Rain Collector is a closed system, we needed to devise a way to manage air flow in when you use the water, and to manage air flow out when the unit is filling.  We searched high and low but could not find a suitable and affordable valve.  So, drawing on inherited inventor genes, we built our own valve.  It simply shuts off the air hole when the water level rises high enough in the barrel.  It is made of 100% weather proof and water proof materials.  Without this valve, water would seep out of the top of the unit, like most other rain barrels on the market today.

Water Spigot

This component is an easy one, but with a twist.  Simply, the spigot is no different than what you would find on the side of your house.  It’s a standard fitting that will connect to standard garden hoses.  The twist?  The spigot included in The Rain Collector is made from durable weather proof plastic.  In fact, all of the components of the system have to meet this strict qualification.

Water Level Strip

Since we can offer The Rain Collector in colours, we have taken advantage of this by building in two water level strips on the barrel.  Now you can tell how full the system is at a glance.
